WILL GANSS: A little more than five years ago, a star was born. Fiona the hippo, the first Nile hippo born at the Cincinnati Zoo in more than 75 years, one of many wildly popular animal influencers in the last several years. More than 14 million people watching April the giraffe when she gave birth in 2017. And now, the spotlight is ready for a new superstar. Fiona's mom, Bibi, expected to give birth at any moment. The Cincinnati Zoo sharing this video along with the caption, "We're cautiously waiting for the baby hippo's arrival. After showing signs of restlessness on habitat this morning, it became evident that Bibi wanted to be alone inside the hippo barn." Prior to the big announcement, Fiona cool as a cucumber before becoming a big sister. While this will be her mom's second, the new baby hippo's dad is a first-time father, moving to the Cincy Zoo last year as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plan Project. And the baby hippo already much bigger than Fiona was when she was born. Typical babies weigh between 55 and 120 pounds at birth. When Fiona was born in 2017, she only weighed 29 pounds. Fiona's mom, Bibi, weighing in at more than 3,600 pounds. According to zookeepers, Fiona's personality has more than made up for that size difference. The Cincinnati Zoo waiting patiently for Fiona's half sibling to make its big debut. Zookeepers writing that Bibi has been in the indoor hippo pools all afternoon, snacking, resting, and getting comfortable. Reminding folks to stay tuned for more updates. This pregnancy was somewhat of a surprise because Bibi was on birth control when she conceived. The zoo saying we weren't planning to welcome a baby this soon, but nature found a way and ignored our calendar. And I know Fiona is very excited to become a big sister. - Do you guys know the difference between a hippo and a Zippo? One is really heavy, the other is a little lighter. - A little lighter.
