Transcript for 30 million on alert for tornadoes, flooding, damaging winds
- --the severe weather threat impacting the South. Thirty million people on alert for tornadoes, flooding, and damaging winds this morning. Sam Champion is in for Ginger, tracking it all from Miami. Sam, good morning. - Good morning, Whit. It's a bad, dangerous morning in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. And it's gonna get worse across the Gulf as we watch this storm swing east. So let's get right into it. Already, very early this morning on the drive time in, we've had severe thunderstorm warnings, even a tornado warning outside of Fort Worth. So watch these storms, and severe thunderstorm watch, flood watches to the north. This is a bad system. Move this east, and those long track tornadoes that could be EF-3 or higher, says the Storm Prediction Center, for Jackson, Shreveport, Greenville, Memphis. All this starts right around 3 o'clock this afternoon. And these are likely to be warnings and sirens going off. I need everybody's attention as we go through the day today. This could be some real trouble. Just to the north of this is the very heavy rain. And we've got 3, to 4, maybe even up to 5 inches of rain. Watch that area in Louisville. Now-- and we've got a little snow, Traverse City, almost to Chicagoland. Now, watch this rain move into the Northeast. I want to quickly get to this. The heaviest rain gets in right around noontime. Linsey, we're here in Miami. We'll talk about the big heat that develops in Florida later on this morning. - Meanwhile, that map lit up all over the country. Sam, thank you.
