[PEPPY MELODY] KATIE CONKLING: I told my doctor, I says, I've already decided I'm going to go to 105. Oh, and he says, well what's wrong with 10? I said, OK, let's go to 10! [PEPPY MELODY] We were opened up to take the other military units so they could also have women serving. And so this is-- that's how it started. - She's a child of the Depression. So she was just looking for opportunities. And my dad was-- I think he had been drafted early on in the war. And she probably thought, well, if he can serve his country, I can serve my country.
