Transcript for This is what it's like to have a tortoise as a pet
- Here's how I walk my 175 pound tortoise, Tiptoe. I tie one of his favorite snacks to a stick and then I use it to keep him on track when we're on our walks. So Tiptoe's daily routine involves a nice soak in his pool which is followed by our favorite time of day when we take him out on a walk. And we do this just so he can get some exercise, stretch his legs, socialize. In our backyard he has a good amount of space to motor around, but we've noticed he's just so much happier when we get him out and get on a nice groove with walking. We usually make it about one block in an hour.
So I got Tiptoe when he was about the size of this persimmon. He could fit in the palm of my hand. So I got Tiptoe when I was seven years old from Santa, actually. I had put him at the very, very top of my list and Christmas came rolling around and he was just sitting there under the tree very, very tiny, about the size of a credit card. And now obviously he's 175 pounds, so we've gone through quite some growth.
The fact that Tiptoe will be with me my entire life is pretty mind-blowing because that's just-- I don't know. I feel like that is going to be such a crazy experience. He's been around for so many huge pillars in my life already. It's so interesting to have to think about regardless of what I do, I will always have my little buddy with me.
